Mysterymoons are seriously one if my favourite things to talk about lately! Whether both of you don’t know where you are going (because you contacted an travel expert like me) or one of you books the trip and doesn’t tell the other one, mysterymoons can be incredibly EXCITING. What better way to start married life than to truly be surprised together or do plan a surprise for your better half? It is sure to leave you in a state of awe.
First, What exactly is a Mysterymoon?
Okay, the title of this post is a bit misleading I admit. What I mean, is that Mysterymoons are here to stay and are not just a “come and go trend”. It doesn’t mean a mysterymoon is right for everyone although I hope that as you read this post you see why it is drawing so much appeal! But first, let’s address what a mysterymoon actually is. Technically, a mysterymoon is a honeymoon where neither member of the couple knows where they are going. Loosely, a mysterymoon can also be considered trips where one member of the couple helps plan a honeymoon and doesn’t tell the other until the airport!
Mysterymoons can also be babymoons, earlymoons, minimoons and more! They are so flexible (because they are are literally no rules) which is part of the reason that they are here to stay. Not to forget that even if you aren’t a newlywed you still might be interested in a surprise getaway!
Why Would I Want to go on a Mysterymoon for my Honeymoon?
There is almost no work required from you to plan.
Maybe you are burnt out from wedding planning – I know everyone can relate to that right? Wouldn’t it be nice if someone took the reigns and handled all of your honeymoon plans for you and you could just check it off your to do list and not think about it again until the airport? When your planning a wedding, you need those easy check marks on your list!
You have a taste for adventure.
Does the idea of not knowing what city you’ll wake up in tomorrow excited you? How would it feel to get on a plane to a city you have either: 1) Never Heard Of, 2) Never thought to visit, or 3) Have always wanted to visit? Wouldn’t it be amazing to have all the details handled for you? Imagine waking up with the time off booked, your plane ticket and hotel vouchers, and a guide to the city you are on your way to explore!
You end up planning so much that you never actually end up going anywhere.
Can I level with you? I hear all the time that people don’t want to use a travel agent because they prefer to plan everything them self. Hey! You know what you like and that’s awesome. However, if I may be so bold, just because you like planning doesn’t mean you’re good at it. Sometimes, you can have eighteen different destinations narrowed down and it can be impossible to choose! You can get stuck in a state of overwhelm and keep procrastinating until your honeymoon becomes an anniversary trip!
How do I get one?
Wondering how you can actually book a mysterymoon? You have a few options!!
First, Decide whether or not you want the vacation to be a surprise for both of you or if one of you wants to be involved in the planning process
After that, Think about your basic “wants” and “don’t wants” together and be ready to let your travel adviser know!
Finally, Decide Who to Book With. I love mysterymoons and am happy to book them for anyone who reaches out – contact me here!
The process usually goes a little something like this:
1. Tell them your budget.
2. Let Them Know What You want.
3. Show Up at the Airport
Wondering where you could end up?
Everybody is different so hopefully you end up booking with someone who isn’t sending every mysterymooner to the same place (I hope that doesn’t even exist to be honest!). After a consultation, a travel professional will review your options and find something that suits your wish list and your budget. Still looking for inspiration?
