About Puerto Vallarta
Welcome! Puerto Vallarta will make you take part of his colonial city into your heart.
One of its main tourist attractions is the whale watching during winter, a natural show that will surround your senses with this mammal chants. Also you will be able of participate in the turtle releasing that begins in the month of July and ends in December, nothing compares to this experience.
How about a walk down the pier? Walk cobbled roads, appreciate the sculptures meanwhile you enjoy an ice cream while watching the sunset beside your family or friends.
Close your eyes and imagine you are strolling through picturesque downtown Puerto Vallarta; you arrive at the waterfront where you can see local artists entertaining tourists, you stop to enjoy a performance and between applause and laughter you can hear the approaching sound of a vendor ringing the bell on his cart and his cries of “Lemon and vanilla ice cream!”, a classic dessert you can enjoy while wandering through Puerto Vallarta’s famous cobble stoned streets; you look around and see famous sculptures lining the waterfront, such as “The Subtle Stone Eater”, “The child on the Seahorse”, and “In search of the truth”, all created by artists such as Alejandro Colunga, Sergio Bustamante, Pedro Tello and others. Don’t miss the chance to take some photos of your vacation adventures, follow the different rhythms that come from the different bars and restaurants; all around you will sense a special aroma coming from local restaurants, it’s tossed fish (pescado zarandeado); you ask for the menu and realize why this town has been catalogued as being a gourmet capital, and you can enjoy the exquisite dishes that are part of its culinary wealth.
Local Points of Interest:
- El Malecón is located in the historical centre of Puerto Vallarta and it is a promenade which is 870 metres long. It starts at the traditional Hotel Rosita and it goes on until the “Zona Romántica”, going through “Los Arcos”. El Malecón is emblematic of the city, not only because it is located next to the sea and has beautiful views of the bay, but also because along it there is a large concentration of restaurants, bars, art galleries, jewellers, shops, sculptures and other attractions which make it the perfect place for visitors and locals.
- The Church of our Lady of Guadalupe: One of the most visited places in Puerto Vallarta is a symbol of the city which is renown worldwide. In this church, genuine works of art can be found: paintings, sculptures made of wood and marble. Its beautiful architecture and its famous crown are the meeting point for thousands of pilgrims that visit it all year round.
- The Artisan Market “Pueblo Viejo”: Located a few blocks from the Municipal Market, here you can discover a variety of shops that offer jewellery, souvenirs, traditional clothing, tasty local dishes, Mexican food and many more.
- Marino Los Arcos Park: The popular Arcos islands located at the south of Puerto Vallarta are small granite islands that rise above sea level. Los Arcos, meaning the Archs in Spanish, owe their name to the shape of their rock formations. The biggest of which is 25 metres high, and even boats can pass under it. The smaller archs are the perfect place to go snorkeling and diving, as you can go swimming through them and dive into the many caves and tunnels which have been formed in the reefs over time. To visit this place, you can take a boat tour to the southern beaches, where stopping at“Los Arcos”is a must. You can also rent a “panga”, a small boat which provides you with the necessary material to go snorkelling from the Los Muertos Pier or from Mismaloya.
